Calgren Opens Fast-Fill R-CNG Station

Something new is happening in Pixley.

Calgren has completed its first public fast-fill renewable compressed natural gas (R-CNG) fueling station, giving local drivers, and local fleets, a convenient way to fuel up using renewable natural gas made right here in the community.

The fast-fill design means vehicles can fuel at rates similar to conventional CNG stations, making it practical for daily fleet operations where uptime and quick turns matter.

The fuel comes from Calgren’s dairy digester network, which captures methane from nearby dairy farms and upgrades it into renewable natural gas (RNG) for transportation. Instead of letting that methane escape into the atmosphere, it’s converted into a low-carbon fuel that can be used in real-world vehicles, every day.

For Calgren, this station represents a full-circle moment.

“This station connects the full circle of what we do,” said Travis Lane, CEO of Calgren. “We produce feed for dairy cows, capture methane that’s traditionally released from dairies, process it into renewable fuel, and put it directly into vehicles—including the trucks that haul our own products. The cow is fueling the truck that hauls the feed that fuels the cow, right here in Tulare County.”

Built With Fleets In Mind

The Pixley fast-fill station is open to CNG-compatible vehicles, including passenger cars, buses, and commercial fleets. For fleet operators already running CNG, or considering the switch, the station offers a local, renewable fueling option that doesn’t require changes to vehicles or fueling routines.

Fast-fill access makes the station well suited for fleets with scheduled routes, return-to-base operations, or regional haul patterns. Vehicles can fuel quickly and get back on the road while significantly reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions.

Diesel fuel has more than four times the greenhouse gas emissions of the R-CNG produced and dispensed at Calgren’s Pixley facility. For fleets operating in California, that reduction can support sustainability goals, customer requirements, and regulatory objectives while still meeting day-to-day operational needs.

Just as important, the fuel is local. It’s produced in Pixley, from Tulare County dairies, and used on Tulare County roads, keeping energy dollars in the region and supporting local agriculture.

A Practical Extension of an Integrated Campus

From its campus in Pixley, Calgren operates one of the most integrated renewable energy facilities in the country. Alongside renewable natural gas, the site produces low-carbon ethanol and co-products like animal feed and corn oil. The new fast-fill R-CNG station is a natural extension of that approach, turning renewable energy into something drivers and fleets can use without changing how they operate.

With the station now open at 11813 Road 120, Pixley CA 93256 Calgren isn’t just producing renewable fuel. It’s delivering a fast, practical fueling option that helps keep the community, and the fleets that serve it, moving.
